Moz Blog Topic Suggestions

I'd like to read a blog post about ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Local Marketing for boring industries

It's easy to market a brand when it's interesting. It's when the industry is very technical and the audience isn't really looking to learn about how to do it themselves. How do you push past monotony of mundane subjects?

      • How to gain visibility in industries Google doesn't like / allow in AdWords

There are some products and services that are restricted by Google to advertise in Google Adwords (Sexually explicit content, Casinos and gambling, Illegal drugs and psychoactive substances, Healthcare and medicines, Alcohol, Tobacco products, etc).
Industries allowed to advertise in Google Adwords can gain visibility very fast: create account, create campaigns, create ads, add keywords and funds and appear in Google.
It would be interesting to read a blog post on how these industries that are restricted can gain visibility fast.

          • Theory of Advanced On Page SEO

We tend to base our SEO best practices advice on factors we can directly measure (keywords in title tag, use of alt image tags, etc) but what about those areas that are hard to measure where search engines could be light years ahead of us, such as topic modeling, semantic distancing, entity extraction and more. Why and how can we take advantage of these concepts while continuing to deliver top-notch content

            • Inbound marketing in detail. Case studies and tools.

There is no relevant information online for really good inbound practices in overall campaigns. How to set realistic goals, how to to choose channles, what processes you should follow to brainstorm and develop interesting and interactive content, how to conduct the campaign and evaluate results. I think we are in need of posts on that,

As an SEO, my best friend is the web developer. A web developer (for the most part) does not implement an SEO strategy without being instructed to do so. We need to talk their language. What are the top things that an SEO needs to understand about web development (pertaining to website optimization).?

I'd like a basic overview of GWT's Data Highlighter & structured data. Is this only beneficial for e-commerce/review sites? After an overview, a tutorial on how to set this up for a site would be great.

                      • Agency structures

It would be really interesting—though admittedly difficult—to see a post with some anonymous data about how agencies in the industry run their business. So, for example, what are the percentages of agencies using hourly vs project based billing, who is strictly consulting, how much work gets outsourced, how much is spent on tools, what's the average length of a contract, how many clients an agency works with at a given time, etc. Moz touches on this a little bit with the industry surveys around salaries and channels we plan on investing in, but I personally think it would be really…

                        • What Passive Tools Should I Set Up for Reference Down the Road?

                          From an email from Keri:

What passive, inexpensive features can you put on your website to gain feedback for use sometime down the road?

Just like when you set up a website, it's a great idea to install Google Analytics, make a few identical profiles in GA, and verify the site in GWT, even if you don't touch them for six months. You'll have been collecting that data all along, and have it to analyze when you do have the time or expertise or the money to spend on someone to look at it for you.

                          My collection of ideas…

                                      • When is a Blog the Right Form of Content Marketing?

From an email forwarded by Rand:

It seems like many companies we "sold" on blogging and "do it" for the sake of saying they are doing it, not for the value it adds to business at large. I've been at some large companies that just don't seem to have a clue how, why and what to "blog". There is obviously a case for blogging in many cases, but there also seems to be a case for spending the resources elsewhere...

Lots of talk at MozCon 2014 about how people are scared to try things out because they think they're hard. I think people are overblowing how hard things actually are. Pete: "Go home and try one thing, and maybe learn that it's not as hard as you think." Annie mentioned it a few times. We should show people the "ugly" details of some commonly encouraged "hard" tasks, and show them that they're really not that ugly after all.
